COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will take a practical look at how to be prepared for seeing patients with diabetes. This course will be interactive and will review case examples.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After participating in this course, you should be able to:
- Discuss how diabetes is defined using different clinical/laboratory measures.
- Become familiar with who needs testing to confirm your suspicion of diabetes, despite no previous diagnosis.
- Discuss some of the common findings that lead to suspicion of diabetes.
- Discuss how to handle an "emergency" situation that presents in the office.
- Discuss referral criteria for patients with retinopathy and/or macular edema.
- Help attendees form personal guidelines to know what patients they want to handle in their office and which ones need to be referred to another provider.
